Jags win home boys track title
GOWRIE — The Southeast Valley boys track and field team took advantage of great conditions to shine here Monday night, capturing their home invitational title.
The Jaguars scored 140 points, as Roland-Story was second followed by Webster City. Madrid, Manson Northwest Webster, Ogden, Gilbert and Pocahontas Area rounded out the team standings for Class A.
Southeast Valley claimed four relay and two individual event titles, adding seven more runner-up and third place finishes to the medal haul. Alex Burger won both the 400 hurdles (55.61) and long jump (21-5-5) while running on the winning 4×200 and shuttle hurdle relays.
Casey Hanson, Logan Jaeschke, Colin Johnson and Kayden Showers claimed gold in the 4×100 (43.43), Burger, Hanson, Jaeschke and Showers picked up the 4×200 (1:33.50), Hanson, Jaeschke, Bryce Harrison and Johnson won the 4×400 (3:32.06) and Burger, Hanson, Kolton Ollinger and Johnson finished first in the shuttle hurdle (1:02.93).
Jaeschke was second in the 100, Lincoln Akins placed second in the 1,600, Johnson was second in the 110 hurdles and Deagan Brandel second in the discus. Ollinger placed third in the long jump, Ian Brunner was third in the shot put and the SEV distance medley took bronze.
Webster City had first place finishes from Justin Callahan in the 800 (2:02.86), Beau Nohrenberg in the shot put (46-10) and the sprint medley of Jaxon Griffith, Kaleb Hansen, Rylan Stroner and Justin Callahan. The quartet was clocked at 1:35.71.
Stroner (200), Daniel Murillo (800) and Jack Barner (3,200) all placed second while Griffith (110 hurdles), Nohrenberg (discus) and the 4×400 each finished third.
Jack Hoeppner and Mason Anderson won events for Manson Northwest Webster. Hoeppner was first in the 400 in 53.31 and Anderson the same in the high jump after clearing 5-10.
Thatcher Oswald, Cole Judisch, David Nelson and Hoeppner placed second in the 4×400, as did Noah Berger, Anderson, Thomas Lundberg and Oswald in the distance medley.
Judisch (200), Rowan Poutre (3,200) and Wyatt Lahr (high jump) each finished third for the Cougars.
Adam Marsh won the discus (129-0) and was second in the shot put to lead Pocahontas Area.
