Even after losing to Valley on Thursday night in the Dodger Pool, Fort Dodge head coach Joel Greathouse was still pleased with the efforts.

The Dodgers (2-1 overall) lost 111-59 to West Des Moines Valley, but came away with four event victories.

“It was a really good night,” Greathouse said. “We won’t go out and win a lot of meets. We want to see improvements each time out and start to gain some consistency.”

Senior Andrew Fierke had a huge night for the Dodgers, winning two events. Fierke captured gold in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.20) and was champion in the 500 freestyle (4:44.77).

“Andrew dropped another two seconds on his 500 freestyle time,” Greathouse said. “Andrew had a really good night for the events he was in.

“After winning the 500, he swam in the 200 freestyle relay, then he took off an event and came back and won the 100.”

Senior Landon Getting won the 50 freestyle and finished in 23.45. Getting was also second in the 100 butterfly (58.82).

Junior Cole Pearson was the 200 freestyle champion in a time of 1:50.76 and he was also second in the 100 freestyle in 48.27.

The Fort Dodge quartet of Pearson, Getting, Eli Assay and Fierke were second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:32.13).
