Gael girls claim NCC tennis crown

IOWA FALLS — The St. Edmond girls tennis team secured a second consecutive North Central Conference regular season championship here Thursday.

The Gaels finished the league slate unbeaten, besting Iowa Falls-Alden, 6-3.

“It feels great to accomplish this feat once again,” SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. “These girls set out to do this and they worked hard to achieve it. Now, they can continue their quest for the next goal.”

Lauren Gibb, Ava Andrew, Cambree Lunn, Ava Underberg and Abby Huss were winners in singles, with the doubles pair of Gibb and Payton Bradley earning a victory.

“Lauren had a phenomenal night dominating in singles and doubles,” Neverman said. “All of the other matches were within a couple of games and could have gone either way.

“The two teams are mirror images of each other up and down the lineup so it was nice to see the girls be disciplined and play with the patience needed to come away with so many close victories.”

Next action for the Gaels will be on Wednesday when they host the NCC tournament at Dodger courts. Joining St. Edmond will be Webster City, the Cadets, Clear Lake, Hampton-Dumont/CAL and Nevada.
