Gateway Discovery thanks donors

To the editor: Two very generous anonymous donors recently challenged Gateway to Discovery / Hope Sweet Hope Studios with two $20,000 matching grants. Any monies given up to this amount in October through December would be tripled. Thanks to the donors and thanks to literally hundreds in Fort Dodge and the surrounding area, GTD / HSHS has not only met its goal but exceeded it! In November, GTD / HSHS held its annual “It’s a Chocolate Thing” chocolate tasting fundraiser. Thanks to the hundreds of people who attended and those who helped make it a huge success. Especially thanks ...

A huge thank you

To the editor: The YWCA of Fort Dodge would like to give a resounding thank you to all those who gave their time, talents and gifts to make the YWCA Silver Showcase a HUGE success! This was, without a doubt, one of the most successful events in our history. The community has spoken! Through your generosity you have underlined the need to keep the women together with their children, as they go through the rehabilitation journey! The support that clients share with each other is awesome and lends to the security of the children and their future. The YWCA is the only facility that ...

Supports Snell-Crawford Park

To the editor: Fort Dodge has many parks to explore and the Fort Dodge Noon Rotary Club encourages you to explore Snell-Crawford Park, which our club adopted many years back. Please encourage the city officials to reopen the road access to the center of the park again. The City Council will visit this road access in the near future and the Fort Dodge ...

Fears the country is heading for trouble

To the editor: When I was growing up I always heard ignorance of the law is no excuse. I was always told no one is above the law. When did all that change? If we still have a United States Constitution, how can we let it happen? Do we delete words like ethics, morality, fairness, equality, justice and empathy from the dictionary? Have been brainwashed to think they’re meaningless? And what about lying, is that acceptable now? For myself a name comes to mind that has the first two letters as what we are in now TRouble! Supports Kamala Harris

To the editor: Last week I saw something on the national debate stage I have not seen before and I am still thinking about. Race and diversity was a major topic. I listened to the different views and opinions, and one that particularly stood out was Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris who was forceful and gave direct attention to issues that affect many. As a proud Fort Dodge native and a person who cares for our community, it is a privilege to be able to say our Fort Dodge is striving to diversify, I see it throughout our town and its people. Yes, we have our challenges ...

Hillside holiday lights to return

To the editor: The miracle of Christmas is on 202 Second St. This story could not have been told if it was not for the character bestowed to one man’s dream to have the largest Christmas in the world. I did not achieve that, but on Facebook five years ago, I was number eight for the most unique display because almost everything you see is handmade. That was good enough for me and this will be my 35th year. The cost is the biggest hurdle every year. At the end of the season I count my blessings and my donations, but the kettle runs dry except for last year. With no help financially ...
