Concerned about pork production facts

To the editor: On the back page of the sports section on Oct. 27, you declared October Pork Month. I’d like to update the pork industry facts. As of August 2017, in a report to the EPA, the DNR reported 10,289 CAFOs with 300 under construction. The DNR also reported another 3,797 unknown CAFOs were discovered by aerial survey, bringing the total to 14,386. The 2017 total is 2.3 times the 2012 total of 6,266 and 2017 is almost three years ago. I agree Iowa is #1 in the pork production, which also makes it #1 in the nation for feces generated. To the editor: I lived in Fort Dodge from 1982 to 2004, and was privileged to serve on the City Council for 11 of those years. I loved living there, and still think of it as home. To the editor: In the past few months, I’ve had a very bad experience with my internet and cable provider. The technicians have been to my house four times — three of them for 3+ hours at a time without resolving my internet and cable problems (I have had to leave work each time). With no solution to the problem, each technician has his own unique approach as to how to remedy it. They finally returned a fifth time and somewhat remedied the situation. To the editor: I live in Ward 2 and Justin (Myers) is my cousin. Our grandparents lived in the Ward and so did Justin’s grandma on his mom’s side. The only reason his parents moved out of the city is because his dad started his own repair shop out by where the ethanol plant is now. Justin’s roots are in the Ward and he is living and working in the Ward now. He’s got a good heart and a good brain and he’s not afraid to stand up to powerful people to represent regular people. To the editor: I’m a 69 year old man, married, father of two, grandfather of three, American by birth, patriot by choice and veteran witnessing our democracy slipping away. January 2017: We learned our presidential election had been interfered with. Am I missing something or shouldn’t this attack on America be of the highest priority for Congress to deal with? Well?
