Says Meyer represents all of us

To the editor: Ann Meyer represents all of us in District 9 in the Iowa House. Her steadfast devotion to learning the issues, doing her homework and seeking advice from those affected by proposed legislation is testimony to her capabilities. To evoke the adage, if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. While her opponent is well intentioned and truly an asset to our community, Meyer has already learned the lay of the legislative land in Des Moines and will continue to advocate for all of her constituents. Changing out our representative at this juncture would ill suit the needs of all of us ...

Cargill reaffirms commitment to Fort Dodge

To the editor: As we write this, we are nearing the end of the harvest season. Trucks filled with corn continue to roll into local elevators, despite a year challenged by pandemics and derecho storms. This unfailing perseverance reminds us of why Cargill chose to partner with Webster County and the city of Fort Dodge almost 10 years ago, and why we’ll continue to be here for many years to come. When Cargill purchased the facility in October 2011, we promised to transform the idled plant into a world class operation. By all accounts, we’ve lived up to that promise, making ...

Supports Clayton for Iowa House

To the editor: Voters in Fort Dodge and Webster County have an opportunity to upgrade the quality of our representation in the Iowa House of Representatives, presuming we want to elect a representative who actually will represent all of the people of District 9, and not just the few who can take advantage of fat tax breaks for the wealthy, who want public money to go to vouchers for private schools and numerous other exclusionary policies that favor money over regular people. Our current representative just doesn’t represent us effectively. That’s only one reason why I am proud to ...

Encourages vote for Fleener

To the editor: Webster County voters have begun the process of electing a new county sheriff. Given the current state of policing across the country, your selection is more important than ever. For me, this is a job interview. It isn’t just some popularity contest. Law enforcement is under an intense spotlight. This position is important and voters should treat it as such. Having been a peace officer for the Dayton Police Department, Fort Dodge Police Department and Iowa State Patrol for over 30 years, I’d encourage you to join me in voting for Luke Fleener for sheriff. Being ...

Fleener is a man of integrity and an officer full of knowledge, determination and fortitude. He has proven his character working cases with sheriff’s deputies, Fort Dodge city police officers and Iowa State Patrol Troopers, effectively building relationships between the agencies, creating camaraderie that is important to law enforcement. Says Meyer works for both sides

To the editor: I am writing this letter in support of State Rep. Ann Meyer. Anyone that knows me knows I am very passionate about our community. I’m also quite passionate about politics. I have supported both Democrats and Republicans through the years. I supported Ann two years ago because of the work her and her husband Jim have done for our community and of course because I am a Republican. However, this year I am supporting her because of the great work she has done for all Iowans throughout her first term. I cannot remember an elected official that has demonstrated a desire to ...
