Iowa Central has vital role

To the editor:

As December 6 is quickly upon us with the Bond Issue proposed by Iowa Central Community College, I would like share as the president and CEO of UnityPoint Health — Fort Dodge why I support this bond.

Trinity Regional Medical Center’s roots have always been tied to the nursing programs of Fort Dodge. For decades our medical center and ICCC have partnered to educate and cultivate the nurses of tomorrow, as well as EMS staff, lab techs, patient care techs, radiology techs, certified medical assistants and other health careers. Because of this partnership, we have had pool of outstanding individuals to become members of our health care team. Trinity is not the only one to benefit from these ICCC health care graduates, but also our nursing homes, home care, schools, public health agencies, and area hospitals and clinics — all of which serve the citizens of this community.

For these reasons alone, this bond issue will ensure ICCC continues to be able to provide a first-rate education for our future health care providers. This investment plan will provide the facilities and programs needed to draw top-notch faculty and high-quality students to Fort Dodge — an investment that benefits all of us. This bond will also safeguard the progress the community of Fort Dodge has worked so hard to achieve.

The medical field is just one of multiple areas of study ICCC brings excellence to our community. I believe without a doubt this is magnified across the continuum of business and industry for the Fort Dodge region. Not only is the health industry enhanced with professionals, but also the industrial, agricultural and biotechnology — to name just a few areas this exemplary higher education organization offers to our community.

As a member of this community, I am asking everyone get out on Tuesday and let your voices be heard to continue the growth and enhancement of Fort Dodge.

Mike Dewerff,

President & CEO
