MAGWED tournament succeeds

To the editor:

This year’s MAGWED tournament was a special one. Trigg’s Resort in Arnolds Park let us rename their beach MAGWED Beach. Thank you Mike May with Trigg’s.

The MAGWED tournament has come and gone for 2016. We had two youths weigh in some great fish. Landon Lundberg weighed in a 1 pound 1-1/2 ounces walleye, and Piper Smith weighted in a whopper of a bass at 3 pounds 7 ounces. It was one of two bass she caught both over 3 pounds. Her very proud grandfather, Eldon Pigsley, said she did all the work on her own from baiting the hook to bringing it into the net. The adult winners were Trevor Peters – northern, at 6 pounds 11 ounces; Todd Hubrich – walleye, 5 pounds 7-1/2 ounces; and Zach O’Brien – bass, 4 pounds 15 ounces.

It was beautiful weather for a change. Even though the crowd was small, we had a great representation from the youth group. We had over 50 youth registered for prizes. A winning situation for the MAGWED Foundation because, “It’s all about the kids.”

We would like to thank all our volunteers for helping this year – Joy Thoma, Sue Thoma, Kelsey West, Julie Barkema, Jillian Angstrom, Rhonda Peterson and Rusty McNeil (Iowa Central communications).

Without our sponsors MAGWED would not exist. A big Thank you to Hume’s Distributing, Roger Brown, Trigg’s Resort, Jack Mallero, Daniel Tire, The Messenger, Iowa Outdoors Store, Kemna Auto, Kesterson Realty, Green Amusement, Riley Armstrong, Beth Ozbun, Precision Machine, Howard’s Body shop, Randy and Windy Cerwick, Domino’s Pizza, C&S Bird Seed, Harley Davidson of Okoboji, Bruce and Paula Oldson, Creative Sign and Graphics, Taco Ticos, Ja-Mar’s Drive Thru, Tom Thumb restaurant, Country Side BBQ, Curt and Rhonda Peterson, Paul Electric, Advanced Auto, Laufersweiler’s Funeral Home, Harty’s Caddy Shack, B&L Drive Thru, Stan’s Bait Shop in Milford, Chesterfield Lounge, Ferrell Auto, KICD radio in Spencer, Randy Thompson in Humboldt, Ed Debakey, John and Sue Thoma, Randy and Melanie Thoma, Moeller Furnace, NAPA Auto Parts, Doug and Julie Barkema, Northern Lights, Jordison trucking, Rogers Tire, Pepsi Cola in Fort Dodge, Fareway store in Fort Dodge, Bobby and Dian Nowell, Double Action Defense in Algona and Hiway Truck.
