Paivarinta makes court appearance on terrorism charges
A Fort Dodge man had a preliminary hearing before a judge Monday afternoon on charges of making threats of terrorism.
Daniel Paivarinta, 27, is charged with making threats of terrorism in which he stated that he planned to purchase a firearm and use it on members of local law enforcement.
Paivarinta appeared before District Court Judge Christopher Polking, who in court documents stated that enough evidence was provided to move forward with the case.
Paivarinta was charged on May 2 in Webster County Magistrate Court after the Fort Dodge Police Department received information that Paivarinta made social media threats of wanting to purchase a firearm and use it on law enforcement.
According to court documents, Paivarinta threatened to commit terrorism or made threats intended to cause fear of imminent acts of terrorism within the city limits of Fort Dodge.
In a press release, the Fort Dodge Police Department said further postings online by Paivarinta outlined his plans to carry out an attack on law enforcement, including publicly posting that he was in search of a firearm.
Paivarinta’s arraignment on the charge of threats of terrorism is scheduled for 1 p.m. May 27 in the Webster County Courthouse.
Paivarinta is also scheduled to appear before a judge on Friday for an initial hearing on the charge of conspiracy to commit a forcible felony.
