Council buys Sinclair site for intersection job
The Sinclair gas station at Second Avenue North and 15th Street was purchased by the Fort Dodge City Council Monday as it prepares for the reconstruction of that intersection.
The station, which consists of fuel pumps but doesn’t have a store, is on the southwest side of the intersection.
The site is needed to properly realign the intersection, according to Chad Schaeffer, the city’s chief development officer. He said the project will impact the entire property.
The council voted to buy the property from LJ Convenience, of Denison, for $240,000. The parcel totals 9,500 square feet.
On Monday, the council also bought needed right of way for the project from these owners:
• UnityPoint Health — Fort Dodge, $2,530.
• Timberlane Properties, $80.
• Family Video Movie Club, $1,200.
Work on the intersection job is expected to begin in July and be completed by the end of the year.
Also on Monday, the council approved raises for management and other nonunion employees for 2026-2027.
The workers will get a 1.5 percent raise on July 1 and another 1.5 percent raise on Jan. 1, 2027.
The council also gave final approval to updated versions of the fire, building and residential codes.
