Landowners concerned about wind farm project
A couple of Webster County landowners approached the county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday to share their concerns over a proposed wind farm project in the northern part of the county.
“How much of our county are we going to turn into an industrial park?” rural Badger resident Steve Slife asked the board. “I live a mile north of that solar power plant that looks like a prison … How much of our natural resources are we going to sell off in the name of progress? How much of our culture are we going to sell off in the name of progress?”
Slife, as well as Steve Schmalenberger, of rural Vincent, shared their concerns over the proposed wind energy site, including what effect wind turbines could have on the environment and wildlife in the area. Slife said bald eagles have recently returned to the area.
Schmalenberger also presented to the board a petition with about 340 signatures of residents opposed to any potential wind energy project in the area.
