Author Joseph LeValley at Clare Public Library on Monday

CLARE — The Clare Public Library invites the communities in the surrounding areas to a special book signing event with author Joseph LeValley on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Clare Community Center. LeValley will be signing copies of his newest release, “Murder Suspended,” the seventh book in his popular Tony Harrington mystery series. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres while meeting the author and hearing about his latest work. All are welcome to attend this exciting literary evening. The Clare Public Library will be closed on Monday to allow staff to host this event.

FDPL announces October Brown Bag Briefings

The Fort Dodge Public Library, 424 Central Ave., will be holding Brown Bag Briefings beginning at noon Thursday and continuing on Thursdays through Oct. 23. The briefing Thursday will be Terry Allers with a program on Fort Dodge architecture on Oct. 16. Oct. 23 will feature Brian Bidleman of Beacon of Hope. He will speak about the homeless situation in Fort Dodge.

Holy Trinity spaghetti dinner is Oct. 19

Holy Trinity Parish spaghetti dinner is 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 19, at the Corpus Christi Center, 403 N. Eighth St. The meal includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread, beverage and dessert. Carryout is available, beverage not included. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 5 to 11 and free for children ages 4 and under.

Manson Meridians seek new and returning singers for 54th season; Rehearsals set to begin Thursday

MANSON – The Manson Meridian Singers are preparing for its 54th season, and would like to invite any and all who love to sing to join them on this year’s musical journey. Rehearsals will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday in the choir room at Manson Northwest Webster High School, 1601 15th St. All parts – soprano, alto, tenor and bass – are welcome. No tryouts are required to join. Andrea Christians, of Pocahontas, is in her fourth year as director, with Trish Mernka, of Rockwell City, serving as accompanist. Otho Betterment chili cook-off and Bloody Mary contest is today

OTHO — The Otho Betterment Committee’s ninth annual chili cook-off and Bloody Mary contest is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Otho City Park. There will be kids’ activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., silent auction from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Market at the Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bloody Mary public tasting is noon to 1 p.m. and is $5 per person. Chili public tasting is 2 to 3 p.m., or until the chili runs out, and is $5 per person. There will also be food trucks and raffles.
