Says carbon pipelines are private profit, public risk

To the editor: For the second time since Texas-based Navigator announced its plans to ram a carbon pipeline through Webster County, landowners gathered en masse Aug. 25 to demand answers about the dangerous project. Can the pipeline company provide an iron-clad safety guarantee? Will landowners be fairly compensated for their land’s condemnation? No, and no again. Wants answers on immigration questions

To the editor: Mona Charen, in her article “An America-first immigration policy” (Messenger Opinion page, Aug.8), writes of the shortage of workers and the need for immigrants to fill those positions. She ended her article with the question that she says Republicans must answer today: How do you like this immigrant-starved America? I can’t speak for any other Republican or for that matter any Democrat or independent who is troubled by the crisis ongoing at our southern border. To the editor: Chuck Grassley just finished his 42nd year of visiting each of Iowa’s 99 counties to take questions and hear concerns from the people of our state. That’s over 4,000 meetings since he was first elected to the U.S. Senate. It shows that Grassley still has his priorities straight. Democracy is all about government of, by and for the people. Veteran reflects on Honor Flight

To the editor: As I read the Thursday Aug. 18 Messenger, it is time for me to write another letter. In the past couple years I have handwritten a life story book of my life with pictures, stories and clippings of my life for my grandkids and future grandkids to learn who Grandpa really was.
