Former state senator supports abortion rights

To the editor: Iowans will not have the opportunity to vote on an abortion ballot initiative in November like Kansas voters did. But the issue will certainly be on the ballot in terms of the gubernatorial and legislative votes. In conservative Red Kansas, voters clearly voted to support protecting women’s access to abortion by 59 to 41 percent. Kansas, a state that has not voted in favor of a Democratic president since 1964 or a Democratic U.S. senator since 1932. If the question was taken to Iowa voters results would be about the same. To the Editor: We would like to take this opportunity to let our local community know what a gem we have in the Fort Dodge Community Orchard. One week before our daughter’s wedding and rehearsal dinner, the mother of the groom (who is not from the area) discovered that the venue she had reserved for the rehearsal dinner nearly a year ago was no longer going to be able to fulfill its contract. To the editor: President Biden’s many gaffes have been written about. Vice President Harris has some oldies but goodies of her own. In an interview with Craig Melvin on the Today show In January, Harris was asked if it was time for the administration to change course, to change strategy, regarding keeping COVID-19 at bay. To the editor: Congratulations on the outstanding coverage of Senior High’s award-winning 95th annual musical theater presentation “Footloose.” Lindey Krug, stage director, Matt Drees, vocal/choral director, their staff and students highly acclaimed performance recently at the Des Moines Civic Center certainly warranted front page coverage that was given in The Messenger. This recent musical theater festival is a wonderful addition to music education in Iowa. I was privileged to direct and conduct 31 consecutive musicals at FDSH from the 40th through the 70th.
