St. Edmond hits the road
The St. Edmond basketball team will head in different directions on Friday.
The Gael boys (1-0 overall, 0-0 in the North Central Conference) travel to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows (0-1) for a 7:15 p.m. tip.
The St. Edmond girls (0-1), meanwhile, are at West Fork (1-1). Action begins at 6:15 p.m.
Head coach Adolph Kochendorfer’s squad is coming off a 56-51 victory over Bishop Garrigan. Juniors Hunter Horn and Jakob Koopman opened with strong efforts versus the Golden Bears, scoring 21 and 13 points, respectively.
Horn had a double-double by adding 11 rebounds. Koopman was near a triple-double with 14 rebounds and seven steals. Classmate Jack McElroy had nine points.
St. Edmond leads the series with the C-G/D boys 27-9 in games played since 2006. The Gaels have won the last three meetings after ending a four-game win streak by the Cowboys.
C-G/D is coming off a 53-47 loss to Eagle Grove. Sophomore Chaz Lane had 13 points and 12 rebounds, while classmate JD Morrical had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Johnny Lomeli added nine points.
The Gael girls are coming off a 78-20 loss to top-ranked Bishop Garrigan. Senior Josie Harvey led the Gaels with six points, while junior Anna Lursen pulled down eight rebounds.
Thursday’s contest against the Warhawks will be the first meeting in school history. West Fork (1-1) is coming off a 59-22 loss to fifth-ranked Forest City after a 59-31 triumph over North Iowa.
Senior Leah Weaver leads West Fork, averaging 14 points per contest. Nehir Kanat is at 9.3 points per game.
