Power-packed FDSH softball invite begins

The third-ranked (Class 4A) Fort Dodge softball team will once again host a stacked field for their home invitational.

Games begin here at Rogers Park on Friday and continue through Saturday night.

The Dodgers will face Mid-Prairie on Diamond 1 at 4 p.m. With a win, they would take on either No. 5 (2A) Iowa City Regina or 14th-ranked (5A) Cedar Rapids Kennedy at 5:45 p.m.

Ankeny Centennial is the No. 1 seed and currently ranked fifth in 5A. They begin the day vs. Sioux City Heelan.

Newell-Fonda, coached by FDSH grad Courtney (Vaughn) Darrow and ranked ninth in 1A, plays No. 14 (4A) Clear Creek-Amana at 9 a.m. on Diamond 2.

No. 11 (2A) Central Springs vs. No. 1 (1A) Martensdale-St. Marys, Atlantic vs. top-ranked (3A) Williamsburg, seventh-ranked (5A) Ankeny vs. 13th-rated Clarksville and No. 10 (5A) Ames vs. 11th-ranked (4A) Winterset complete the first round.

Semifinals are scheduled for Saturday at 2:15 p.m. with the championship to be played that night at 5:45 p.m.
