Tritons bring home hardware from NJCAA national meet

HOBBS, N.M. — The Iowa Central men came away with a third-place showing at the NJCAA national track and field championships here last weekend.

The Tritons finished with 72 points, with the 4×800 earning national championship honors.

New Mexico (97) was the winner, and South Plains (93) claimed the runner-up position.

Iowa Central combined to solidify 21 All-American honors.

According to World Athletics, the Tritons’ time of 7:18.27 in the 4×8 is the second-fastest in the nation currently. Saad Rifi Loutfi, Soufyane Laaziz, Taha Ouchene, and Said Rifi comprised the golden quartet.

The Iowa Central women took ninth with 39 points. Abbigail Hutchinson was the top performer, placing second in the steeplechase.

The Iowa Central men brought home four silver medals. Rifi Lutfi (800), Laaziz (1,500), Akram Luaki (shot put) and Hayden Stockdale (hammer throw) all took second.

Carl Givens was third in the discus for the ICCC men.

The Triton women’s 4×800 team of Alivia Edens, Juliette Gavois, Hutchinson, and Chadrak Belinda Bula Bula earned bronze.

Maeve Goune Tibbolo (long jump) and Unitee Brown (shot put) both secured third as well.

Paola Behile (triple jump) was fifth for the women.

Rifi Lutfi (1,500), Osmond Holt (decathlon), and Taha Ouchene (800) were all fourth for the men.

For the Iowa Central women, Janae Dawes had sixth-place efforts in the 400 meter hurdles and the long jump. Eden Brouwers (heptathlon) was also sixth.

Triton William Evans was sixth for the men in the discus.

Iowa Central’s Haydn Stockdale crossed in seventh for both the shot put and the discus. Chakib Cherkaoui Rhazouani was seventh in the 5,000.
