Gibb places third for Gaels

WATERLOO — The St. Edmond girls tennis team was in action at a Class 1A regional here Monday.

Lauren Gibb placed third in singles for the Gaels, bouncing back from a semifinal loss to best Josie Johnson of Iowa Falls-Alden, 6-2, 6-2. She fell in the semis to Claire McCumber of Dike-New Hartford in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

“Lauren battled for over three hours in her semifinal,” SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. “She definitely showed her mental toughness coming back in the consolation match.

“As a team, everything played well. All of the matches that we lost were to teams that finished in the Top-4.”

Ava Andrew and Cambree Lunn fell in doubles to the eventual runners-up.

The Gaels return to action on Friday when they travel to Cherokee to face Sergeant Bluff-Luton at team regionals.
