Dodger girls stopped by No. 6 Riverhawks

MASON CITY — The Fort Dodge girls were unable to keep pace with No. 6 (Class 4A) Mason City here Tuesday night, falling 56-25.

With the win, the Riverhawks claim at least a share of the Iowa Alliance North division title, which they can win outright against Ames on Saturday.

LJ Maehl had eight points with 10 rebounds to lead the Dodgers, as Mackenzie McIlrath added six rebounds. Brooklyn Pommer had seven rebounds and four steals.

“We were within 12 at the half but had way too many turnovers after that,” FDSH head coach Scott Messerly said. “Mason City is a tough team and this was a tough game on the road.”

Machaela Trask had 14 with Reggi Spotts adding 13. Mason City built a 24-12 lead after the rivals were tied at 8-all after the first.

The Riverhawks outscored the Dodgers in the fourth, 21-5.

Fort Dodge heads to Des Moines East Thursday night.

Starting at $4.94/week.
