Personal gains for Gael girls

MASON CITY — The St. Edmond girls golf team had three personal-record scores here Monday at the North Central Conference meet.

Clear Lake claimed the team title behind medalist Elle Ebeling’s 82, as the Lions had the five best individual scores for the day. Algona placed second followed by Iowa Falls-Alden, Humboldt, Webster City, Charles City, Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and the Gaels.

Humboldt’s Sophia List was sixth overall with a round of 91, as Algona had Taylor Hellman place eighth with a 93 and Lainey Steuk 10th with a 94.

For St. Edmond, Ashlyn Swisher placed 40th overall with a 120, Irelyn Derrig was 47th with a 125 and Ann Veneziano finished 49th with a 130. Kaci McGonegle recorded her first birdie on the par-3, No. 5, placing 50th, as Abby Tofilon was 51st and Grace Fuller 53rd at Legacy Golf Course.

“Ashlyn, Irelyn and Abby all had PRs for 18 holes,” SEHS head coach Maury Ruble said. “We are continuing to improve each time out, but are simply overmatched by experience at this point.”

St. Edmond heads to a Class 1A regional at Graettinger from Hillcrest Golf and Country Club on Friday. The field includes Manson Northwest Webster, North Union, West Bend-Mallard, Alta-Aurelia, Belmond-Klemme, Bishop Garrigan, GTRA and West Hancock.
