The Fort Dodge girls soccer team cleared a recent hurdle that had been in their way in the final home match of the season.

The Dodgers (3-7 overall) secured a third victory in a season for the first time since 2018 by knocking off Des Moines Lincoln (4-6-1) in a 2-1 final on Tuesday night.

“This is a very competitive group. They work really hard,” said FDSH head coach G Myers. “Everyone has been going neck-and-neck for a minute.

“These girls know how to celebrate with each other. There is no bickering. It’s a positive team, and we have so much fun together.”

Addie Lentsch scored the first goal for the Dodgers and Eily Martinez had the second as the Dodgers took a 2-0 halftime lead.

“We just keep believing,” Myers said. “We’ve felt that way all year. Ther are games we go into knowing our backs are against the wall and it would be tough to (come out on top). But when they believe they have a shot, their energy is up start to finish.”

The Fort Dodge junior varsity lost, 3-1. Alvia Ramos scored the lone goal for Fort Dodge.

The Dodgers are back in action on Tuesday at East Sac County.

Starting at $4.94/week.
