Wildcat girls improve to 4-1
HUMBOLDT — Morgan Mann and the Humboldt girls continued their winning ways here Friday night, posting a 55-29 victory over St. Edmond.
Mann scored a game-high 19 points to lead the way for the Wildcats (4-1 overall, 2-0 in the North Central Conference), who have now won four straight since a season-opening loss to Gilbert.
A junior, Mann has now scored 112 points in five head-to-head matchups with the Gaels (1-4, 1-1). She previously set the single-game school-record with 33 last year, a mark she eclipsed earlier this season with 34.
Ava Fischer added 10 points, with Reagan Lee scoring seven and Meg Zweibohmer seven.
Humboldt has won 10 in a row vs. St. Edmond.
“It was a physical game and we didn’t adjust to that as well as Humboldt did,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We dug ourselves in a hole early with foul trouble. We have to learn how to play through the contact, if it is called or not.”
One night removed from a road game at South Hamilton, the Gaels had trouble getting going, falling in a hole early, 17-3. Freshman Chloe Palmer led the way with 11 points while Payton Bradley added nine. Bradley had seven of her nine in the first half.
“Chloe had a nice game on offense,” Tracy said. “She was more aggressive and did a nice job of crashing the boards. Payton had another good game for us on offense and really provided a spark in the first half.”
St. Edmond returns home on Tuesday, hosting Webster City. Humboldt heads to Algona on Tuesday and is at Fort Dodge Thursday.
