SE girls can’t find answer for Hawks
JEWELL — A rough start kept the St. Edmond girls in a big hole here Thursday night.
South Hamilton jumped out on the Gaels from the tip, claiming a 58-19 non-conference victory.
Josie Harvey had 10 to lead St. Edmond (1-3 overall) with Anna Lursen chipping in four. Payton Bradley had three and Chloe Palmer two.
“I told the girls after to just flush this one and get ready because we are back on the court in 24 hours,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We had some positives but we also failed to execute where we really needed to. It’s a process and we’re still learning.”
Makena Galetich and Ashlyn Erickson each scored a game-high 19 to lead the Hawks with Tanna Thompson adding 10.
“South Hamilton has some really good guards and they took advantage of us,” Tracy said. “We didn’t execute our press break and threw the ball all over the place.
“Sometimes, you have nights like this.”
Since a six-point loss to South Central Calhoun last month, the Hawks (5-1) have reeled off four consecutive wins, including two over North Central Conference teams. They started this streak with a 44-36 triumph vs. Iowa Falls-Alden.
They have won their last three games by double digits, holding all three opponents to under 24 points.
The Hawks have won four straight in the series, which St. Edmond leads 12-6 over the last 18 meetings.
St. Edmond will try to snap out of its losing skid when they travel to Humboldt on Friday night for a 6:15 p.m. in league play. South Hamilton hosts Perry in Heart of Iowa Conference action.
