No. 3 Dodgers win twice on the road
DES MOINES — The third-ranked Fort Dodge wrestling team captured two dual wins on Thursday night in Des Moines.
The Dodgers (3-0 overall) had a near perfect score with a 78-0 win over Des Moines North/Hoover. They also beat Des Moines East 59-15.
“It’s nice to have a dual after the first week was canceled,” said Fort Dodge head coach Bobby Thompson. “Getting in the double-dual format gets us in that rhythm for what’s to come.”
Fort Dodge won 13 matches that saw competition, earning falls in 12 of the 13.
Freshman Bo Marsh (126), senior Bo Cowell (165) and sophomore Luke Fierke (285) all went 2-0 with two falls each.
Marsh earned a fall in 2:29 over Emperor Lewis of Des Moines East and pinned Nichaud Lewis-Walker of North-Hoover in a 1:32.
“Bo (Marsh) looked really good,” Thompson said. “He needed to get those wins and it shows he is making growth coming out of a tough tournament.”
Cowell recorded a fall in 4:30 over Cody Jackson of North-Hoover, 4:31 and beat Trevor McKean in 2:17.
Fierke knocked off East’s Issac Lara Marquez in 54 seconds and pinned Jose Castillo Jr. in 33 seconds.
“Luke (Fierke) had a great night as well,” Thompson said. “He hasn’t had a lot of wrestling experience, so being 6-1 is great for him.
