Iowa Central wins big on the road

IOWA FALLS — The sixth-ranked Iowa Central football team quickly erased a small deficit here Saturday vs. long-time rival Ellsworth.

From there, the Tritons imposed their will, pounding on the Panthers to the tune of a 62-13 victory.

Iowa Central (3-1 overall, 1-0 in ICCAC) rebounded following a tough 27-2 setback to top-ranked Hutchinson as Mario Sanders continued to add to his nation-leading numbers with seven receptions for 181 yards and two touchdowns.

Justin Silverstein finished 12 of 15 for 172 with the two TD strikes as Logan Williams and Bryce Aspengren both tossed touchdowns. Larenz Lacking and Ethan John both caught scores with Jaylon Washington running in two scores.

Sanders added a third touchdown with his legs and Adriel Fussell also found the end zone for the Tritons, who built a commanding 48-13 lead at the half.

Isaiah Bruce led the defense with two sacks as the Tritons recorded eight in the game. Caleb Moore, Malachi Byrd, Eli West and Jamal Spiyee all picked off passes.

Iowa Central will remain on the road, heading to Illinois on Saturday to meet top-ranked (Div. III) College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn. DuPage moved to 4-0 with a 38-31 victory over North Dakota College of Science this past weekend and also edged Ellsworth in their opener, 17-10.
