Dodgers split in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY — The Fort Dodge baseball team came away with a split here on Friday afternoon.

The Dodgers picked up a 3-1 victory over Sioux City West and were topped by Sioux City East, 5-3.

Royce Pederson earned the win on the mound, striking out two over five innings with just four hits allowed. He also had a hit at the plate, as did Jase Nekvinda, Dalton Rosalez and Ty Adams.

Grant Williams was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI as Fort Dodge scored all three runs in the fourth. Jaxson Dencklau also drove in a run.

In the loss to East, the Black Raiders plated four runs in the first and another in the second, as the Dodgers cut it to two with three in the fifth.

Nekvinda got the start, striking out a pair over four innings. All five runs scored by East were unearned.

Jace Johnson and Williams had two hits, and both Rosalez and Williams each drove in a run. Adams, Karch Smith and Rylan Kingrey all had a hit.

Next action for Fort Dodge (9-6 overall) will be Monday when they travel to Storm Lake for a 7 p.m. first pitch.
