Dodgers sweep in Perry

PERRY — The Fort Dodge swim team came away with two dual wins on Thursday at Perry.

The Dodgers beat Perry, 86-70, and knocked off Algona, 113-40.

“It was kind of different for us swimming against smaller schools, since we usually are competing against the bigger programs,” said FDSH coach Ashley Beaumont. “So we switched some things around and let the girls compete in different events.

“It’s fun to be competitive and do different things but still succeed.”

Fort Dodge earned four championships, taking three individual golds and the 200 medley relay.

The quartet of Lilian Shin, Raegan Wooldridge, Delaney O’Connor and Hailey Vogel won the 200 in 2:05.46.

Vogel claimed two individual golds, winning the 200 IM (2:19.28) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.87).

Makenna Kammerer was the 50 freestyle gold medalist (28.61).

With the road meet, Beaumont and her team squad up things and swam some unfamiliar events.

“Hailey is new to the 200 IM, but it was fun for her to go out and compete,” Beaumont said. “Eileen (Fierke) swam in relays and wanted to push in the relays. A lot of other girls did different events as well.”

Fort Dodge placed second in eight races.

Eastman was a runner-up in the 200 freestyle (2:05.15) and the 500 freestyle (5:42.28).

Wooldridge placed second in the 50 freestyle (29.18) and the 100 breaststroke (1:13.30).

Fierke (1:07.66 in 100 butterfly) and Kammerer (1:16.40 in 100 backstroke) were both second.

The 200 freestyle quartet of Eastman, Shin, Maddie Pulis and Fierke were silver medalists (1:51.09).

The 400 freestyle team of Fierke, Gracie Harvey, Rachel Moody and O’Connor (4:11.23) also claimed second.

The Dodgers are back in action on Tuesday when they host Ames.
