Gael boys win three events
JEWELL — The St. Edmond boys track and field team put together a solid night here Thursday at the South Hamilton Hawk Relays.
The Gaels placed third with 97 points as Roland-Story was first and Des Moines Christian second.
Quinten McCarville captured the high jump, Aaron Lursen the 800 and Isaac Landwehr the 400 hurdles.
McCarville cleared 6-0 for a third consecutive time, Lursen went 2:06.62 and Landwehr had a personal record in 1:00.04.
“It was just a perfect night,” SEHS head coach Donn Larson said. “I told the kids to not just relax and enjoy it but to run fast and I thought they did that. We’ve still got room for improvement, but I’m happy with how they performed.”
The 4×800 of Sam Mericle, Hayden Mayer, Drew Szalat and Lursen knocked 16 seconds off their previous best time to place second, while Mayer was the 800 runner-up.
Thomas Cosgrove, McCarville, Szalat and Landwehr were third in the shuttle hurdle relay, with Klay Baker, Lursen, Mayer and Cayne Reed earning bronze in the 4×400 with a personal-record.
Reed in the 400 along with the sprint medley, distance medley, 4×200 and 4×100 were all fourth.
St. Edmond heads to North Butler on Friday to compete.
