Dodgers qualify quartet of events for state swim

The Fort Dodge girls swim team saved their best for regionals here on Saturday afternoon.
Three relays and junior Eileen Fierke in an individual event all punched tickets to the state championships, which take place Friday and Saturday.
Fierke earned a spot in the 100 freestyle and on the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays. Freshman Julia Eastman, sophomore Raegan Wooldridge, freshman Addison Daniel, junior Makenna Kammerer and sophomore Becca Kenville were the main relay pieces.
“Regionals was amazing,” FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont said. “Every swimmer went a best time of the season in at least one event.”
Eastman, Wooldridge, Daniel and Fierke had a regional swim time of 1:56.34 in the 200 medley relay, Fierke, Kammerer, Kenville and Eastman went 1:44.39 in the 200 free and Eastman, Kammerer, Daniel and Fierke clocked a time of 3:50.68 in the 400 free.
Fierke will enter state with the 17th-best 100 free time at 54.52.
“Eileen had a great swim in the 100 free, dropping two seconds,” Beaumont said. “We qualified all three relays this year, which gives our team four new state qualifiers.
“I’m very excited for next weekend and for this group to have a very successful state meet.”
Fierke finished fourth at regionals in the 100 free in 54.52, coming out with a 26.25 for her first 50.
The 400 freestyle relay came home in fourth in a time of 3:50.68 as Fierke closed with a 54.44. The 200 medley relay placed fifth at regionals with the 200 free relay finishing in sixth.
Eastman was also fifth in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.09 and Wooldridge seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1;12.33).
West Des Moines Dowling won the team title with 548.5 points followed by Cedar Falls and Sioux Cirty North. Fort Dodge was in sixth overall.
