LANSING, Mich. — Leah Sanck came to Iowa Central as state bowling champion.

Now, the St. Edmond graduate and former Fort Dodge Senior High bowler can call herself a national champ as well.

Sanck helped the Tritons secure their second consecutive team title here Friday, besting Barton and Iowa Western by recording a score of 12,255.

The Iowa Central men claimed their second straight runner-up team finish with a 12,753, just 27 pins behind winner Hawkeye.

Led by Top-6 performances in all events by Korrissa Johnson, Madison Ross and Allison Christenson, the Tritons overcame an early deficit, using strong games in the team and Baker’s rounds to come out on top.

Sanck placed 48th overall and also was fifth in the doubles round of nationals.

“Being a state champion was quite an accomplishment,” Sanck said. “Being a collegiate national champion is on a whole other level because in college, people with all levels of talent compete (from across the country).

“Being able to compete here … and all of us doing well feels better than anyone could think it does.”

Christenson and Johnson finished tied for third in singles, with Johnson and Hannah Waldren earning third in doubles.

On the men’s side, Ray Wiegand paced Iowa Central, finishing fifth overall. Jordan Pelant was ninth.

Jackson’s Collin Baldwin claimed the all-events crown.

Wiegand was fourth in singles and Dale Weaver finished eighth. Pelant and Nathan Hansen teamed to win doubles on Thursday.

“It really was an incredible week for Iowa Central bowling,” Triton head coach Gregg Haden said. “The girls became our first team to defend their title, taking on all the challenges presented to them this year and coming out on top. That really says a lot about how hard they worked and prepared for this.

“And the men were right there in a battle with Hawkeye and Iowa Western.”

Iowa Central competes at the USBC Collegiate Sectionals in Dallas beginning next Friday.
