Iowa Central golf teams will host Spring Invitational

Kris Graewin is excited for the opportunity to host some of the top college golf programs in the state this Friday and Saturday.

He is also excited for how well his Iowa Central program is playing at the moment.

The Tritons will host the Iowa Central Spring Invitational beginning Friday at noon at the Fort Dodge Country Club. The second round is scheduled for Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

Along with the host Tritons, Kirkwood, Des Moines Area, Mount Mercy, Iowa Lakes, North Iowa Area, Buena Vista, Simpson and Hawkeye are among those set to be in attendance.

“The thing I love about this home event is that we have so many supporters come out and watch us,” Graewin said. “We travel pretty well, but when we are playing at home, it just feels like so many more people come out. All 10 guys will play, so that will help boost the fan support, as well.”

On the men’s side, the Tritons were runners-up at the DMACC Spring Invitational this past weekend, following up a team win at the Graceland Spring Invitational. Austin Erickson paced the team at both meets, winning the Graceland title and securing silver at the DMACC tourney.

Joining Erickson will be Justin Schipper, Joe Forsting, Tomas Ribeiro, Liam Ross, Kyle Wille, Cody Dirks, Simon Mitchell, Lane Stanley and Nicholas Tennis.

“They have all put in a lot of work during the offseason,” Graewin said. “We have a good focus, but we are also a very talented team. All 10 guys can post strong numbers.

“It’s just really nice to see their hard work come to fruition.”

The event will also be another great chance for Graewin to see the strength of the ICCAC up close.

“Our league is just unbelievably tough,” he said. “It’s just a grind all the way through.”

Kelly Boleyn will be representing Iowa Central in the women’s field. Boleyn tied for third at Graceland.

“Kelly is playing well,” Graewin said. “I’m excited for her spring season this year because she has put in so much work. She has really taken her game to the next level and I’m excited to see how she can continue to develop.”
