Dodger boys win 4×100 at Waukee

WAUKEE — The Fort Dodge boys track team took on two of the top programs in the state here Thursday night at the Waukee Invitational.

Waukee scored 185 points to place first with Ankeny Centennial second. The Dodgers were sixth with a first, a second and four thirds.

The 4×100 relay of Christian Davidson, Jake Erickson, Sam Daniel and Tyler Schreier went 43.25 to claim gold with Sawyer Springer adding a silver in the shot put.

Springer had a throw of 50-8.75.

“I knew Sawyer had a throw like that coming,” FDSH head coach John McBride said. “He has been real close to busting one all year. That should get him into Drake Relays and place him in high standing for state.

“Our 4×1 time puts us third in the state and is in Drake and that was the fastest 4×4 time we’ve ran all year and should be right on the edge for Drake. Overall, it was just a good night to run and a good night to see where we could get a little faster.”

Schreier was third in both the long jump (21-1.5) and 100-meter dash (11.1), along with helping the 4×400 earn bronze in 3:30.19. Jerry Chada, James Daniel and Erickson completed that quartet.

The sprint medley of Davidson, Sam Daniel, Erickson and Chada were also third in 1:39.44.
