Sister Act

SIOUX CITY — Twin sisters Grace and Faith Meyer had the exact same word to describe their senior season with the Morningside women’s basketball team: rewarding.

The Mustangs clinched the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament title to go along with winning the regular season league crown recently. Next up for Morningside (26-2 overall) will be the NAIA National Tournament on March 13 against either Saint Xavier or Crowley’s Ridge in Wichita, Kan.

For the former Pocahontas Area standouts and state champions, it has been nothing short of a memory-filled ride with Morningside over the past four years.

“This season has been very rewarding,” Faith Meyer said. “We had a lot of girls stay over the summer and face all the challenges thrown at us. We started his season with the mindset that each game could be our last and that drove us to want to make the most of every practice and game.”

Faith Meyer has started all 28 games, averaging 7.4 points per contest on 43 percent shooting from the field and 41 percent from the 3-point line. She also has 71 rebounds, 66 steals and 53 assists.

“Everyone is working hard and putting in so much effort,” Grace Meyer said. “We weren’t sure about what our season would look like because of COVID, so we’ve really tried to take advantage of every opportunity we get.”

Grace Meyer has appeared in all 28 games with one start, scoring 108 points with 90 rebounds, 58 assists and 34 steals.

The bond between not only the sisters but the entire team has grown over their time together.

“What I will remember most from this season is playing with Grace and obviously all my teammates,” Faith said. “We have fun together on and off the court and I know these girls will support me no matter what.”

Grace echoed those thoughts, saying “I will remember getting to play with Faith and the rest of my best friends that I have met here. This team has created so many memories together on and off the court.”

Both added that the decision to attend Morningside was the right one out of high school.

“It has been an amazing opportunity,” Faith said. “I will always cherish the friendships I have gained and every memory I made with my teammates. My coaches have always motivated me to be the best player and teammate that I can be. I am so grateful that I was able to continue to play the sport I love and Morningside will always hold a place in my heart.”

After graduation, Faith, who was named the GPAC defensive player of the year and earned all-league honorable mention status, plans to remain in Sioux City, working at Security National Bank.

“It’s been so much fun playing at Morningside and each season is so different and memorable,” said Grace, who will begin her career in nursing after graduating. “Everyone here is so supportive and wants to the best for you. I have met so many people through Morningside, including life-long friends.”

Former North Union all-stater Chloe Lofstrom is a freshman for the Mustangs. She has started all 28 games, averaging nine points and five rebounds per game with 30 assists and 23 steals.

Lofstrom also made honorable mention all-GPAC.
