No. 5 Gaels take care of Cowgirls

CLARION — The fifth-ranked (Class 1A) St. Edmond softball team bounced back in North Central Conference play with a dominating 14-1 win in six innings over Clarion-Goldfield/Dows here Friday night.

Rihanna Myers struck out 12, including the first nine batters she faced, adding two runs scored at the plate for the Gaels (11-2 overall, 4-1 in league).

Myrah Lemon was 3-for-4 with a double and five RBI, Jade Rock had two hits, drove in three and scored twice, and Sophia Schlienz scored three times with three walks.

“We really did a great job throughout the lineup of getting on base, moving runners and scoring runs,” SEHS head coach Bill Shirbroun said. “Rihanna was in control of her pitches and Breckyn (Ulrich) came on and finished it off with two strikeouts.”

Toryn Helle had a pair of RBI, Ella Vandi stole four bases and scored twice, and Schlienz, Greenlee Crimmins and Grace Schlegel each stole two bases for the Gaels.

Crimmins and Baylor Ulrich both scored twice in the victory.

For the Cowgirls, Kinlee Nail had the lone hit with a double, as Haddi Lantzky drove in Marlee Thompson for the lone run.

St. Edmond heads to the Van Meter Tournament on Saturday to face top-ranked and defending 3A state champion Williamsburg, along with NCC rival Humboldt. The games are scheduled for 11:50 a.m. and 1:40 p.m.
