The third-ranked (Class 4A) Fort Dodge softball team showed off the depth they have both in the lineup and the dugout here on Friday afternoon, sweeping Sioux City East at Rogers Park.
Scores were 18-0 in four innings and 18-2, again in four.
The Dodgers (15-2 overall) put runs on the scoreboard in all six of their offensive frames, which included a 13-run second in the opener. They have now won seven in a row and 13 of 14.
Calliegh Zimmerman was 3-for-3 with four RBI, three runs scored and a home run in the opener, while Emersyn Lara finished 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs scored and two steals.
Fort Dodge belted two triples courtesy Teryn Rippentrop and Meg Marsh, and had six doubles — including two from all-state catcher Ellie Doster. Rippentrop recently committed to play softball at Indian Hills.
“We are just crushing the ball right now,” FDSH head coach Andi Adams said. “We also have girls standing at the fence (to the Dodger dugout) just itching to get a chance to show what they can do. And when they do, they deliver.
“It’s really just been a lot of fun this summer. These girls are very relaxed and don’t get too rattled in tough situations.”
Aubrey Alstott pitched the first three innings, allowing just three hits with a strikeout to earn the win. Lara finished things off with three outs in the fourth.
Rippentrop and Doster both had two hits, as Rippentrop drove in two. Marsh scored three times and stole a pair of bases. All-stater shortstop Hope Alstott had two runs scored and two steals.
In the nightcap, the Black Raiders (8-12) plated two runs in the first before Fort Dodge answered with seven. They added two more in the second and nine in the third.
Doster was 3-for-3 with a triple and a double, driving in five runs, as Hope Alstott went 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.
Macy Wills scored three times and had two hits; Zimmermann scored twice; Brooklyn Gilliland had three runs scored, a hit and an RBI; and Maeleena Meyer scored twice.
Sydney Carver settled down after the opening frame, allowing five hits with three strikeouts to secure the win.
“We’ve been down this year and these girls just don’t let it bother them,” Adams said. “They know what they are capable of and understand they are never out of a game.”
Both Alstott and Rylee O’Brion stole two bases each. The Dodgers again had three more doubles and the Doster triple.
Fort Dodge is at Des Moines East on Monday for a twinbill beginning at 5 p.m.
