HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt boys used their size to wear St. Edmond down here Friday night, claiming a 60-49 victory.

Trevor Jacobson scored 19 points to lead the Wildcats, including 12 in the first half. Sam Fischer added 12 and Caden Matson 10 in the win for Humboldt (5-1 overall, 2-1 in North Central Conference).

Hayden Mayer led the Gaels with 14 points with Anthony Lacina adding 11 and Jackson Palmer nine.

“I was proud of the way the guys battled and hung in there,” SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. “Humboldt is a big, physical team, and they hit some three-pointers against us. But we didn’t back down and scrapped to get back into the game.”

Behind a 13-4 run in the third quarter, the Wildcats were able to extend their lead from six to 15. They led 45-31 heading to the fourth before St. Edmond made a run of its own.

With just under six to go, the Gaels cut the deficit to 50-42.

“We hit some big shots late and had better ball movement,” Kochendorfer said. “We did a better job on the glass in the second half.”

The Wildcats have won three straight in the series after St. Edmond won seven in a row.

Humboldt finishes up the pre-holiday portion of its schedule on Tuesday at Hampton-Dumont/CAL. St. Edmond returns to action on Jan. 4 when they host Webster City.
