North Central Conference members Humboldt and Clarion-Goldfield/Dows both play for Class 3A state volleyball tournament bids on Tuesday night.

The 10th-ranked Wildcats (32-3 overall) take on No. 6 MOC-Floyd Valley (24-4) in Schaller at 7 p.m. Humboldt is making its sixth consecutive regional final appearance, but the program is still in search of its first-ever state tourney berth.

The No. 2 Cowgirls (24-2), meanwhile, are in the Webster City High School gym at 7 p.m. for a Region 3 championship matchup with Des Moines Christian (24-13). C-G/D, the 2020 NCC gold medalist, is attempting to reach the state field for the third straight year.

Head coach Katrina TerHark’s squad earned their first-ever state victory last fall, reaching the 2A semifinal round as the No. 6 seed before bowing out with a 30-7 record.

The Wildcats are led by their eight seniors. Jori Hajek has 312 kills, while Kendal Clark has added 225 and Emily Zaugg 181.

Deni McDaniel has recorded 785 assists. Zaugg and Lily Groat lead the way in blocks.

Hajek (365), Clark (303) and McDaniel (298) are the top dig performers. Groat has tallied 47 ace serves.

Hajek (Class 3A-best 99.4 percent), Zaugg (97.8) and Clark (96.2) anchor the service line, as Humboldt converts 96.5 percent as a team.

Clarion-Goldfield/Dows senior Morgan Middleton — a North Dakota State University recruit — is second in 3A with 419 kills, while Cowgirl teammate Lexie Lane is first with 65 service aces as just a sophomore.

University of South Dakota signee Jadyn Jondle has 216 digs. Lane is the C-G/D leader in blocks, with Alaina Friesleben and Middleton on top in serve accuracy.

Jondle and Friesleben are both seniors.

The state volleyball tournament is Nov. 2-5 in Cedar Rapids.
