Dodgers win again
MASON CITY — The Fort Dodge volleyball team picked up their second consecutive sweep here Tuesday night, downing Mason City.
Scores were 25-19, 25-14 and 25-18.
The Dodgers (4-14 overall) were coming off a three-game sweep of Ames at home last week.
“We’ve been playing with a lot more self-confidence,” FDSH head coach Martha Mericle said. “The girls are believing that they can compete with these teams and they can win matches. We played very low-error volleyball and avoided a lot of the mental mistakes that have hurt us this season.
Kiana Touney led Fort Dodge with 15 kills, adding five digs, two aces and a pair of assisted blocks. Brooke Hansen had seven kills, three solo blocks and was a perfect 7-for-7 serving.
Victoria Touney chipped in six kills, Tjaden Pettit-Johnston had three kills and assisted in four blocks, and Olivia Bell recorded 29 assists.
Bell also had three aces.
“We are a good team and I think they are starting to believe that about themselves,” Mericle said. “We played with a lot of energy and were in control of the match from the start.”
Freshman Taytum Davidson was 11-for-13 serving with three digs and Tory Bennett added four aces and 13 digs.
Fort Dodge returns to action this Saturday for a tournament in Indianola before closing out the home portion of its schedule next Tuesday vs. Marshalltown.
