No. 5 Trojans defeat Iowa Central women

MASON CITY — The Iowa Central women made fifth-ranked North Iowa Area work for everything here Wednesday night, but in the end, turnovers doomed the Tritons.

The Trojans forced 31 miscues that led to easy buckets on the other end, scoring a 90-59 victory.

Three Iowa Central (12-8 overall, 4-3 in ICCAC) players reached double figures in scoring, led by Mardaeja Cross, who had 18 with eight rebounds and three assists. Isabell West scored 16 and grabbed eight boards, while Jordan Engbrecht chipped in 14 and dished out three assists.

For NIACC (20-1, 7-0), Sierra Morrow had a game-high 27 points with Sierra Lynch adding 24. Sydney Wetlaufer contributed 10 off the bench. The Trojans have now won eight in a row, are 9-0 this season at home and 40-1 over their last 41 games played here.

Less than a minute into the contest, the Tritons held a five-point lead, but the Trojans would come storming back, going up 23-14 after the opening 10 minutes. NIACC attempted 44 field goals in the first 20 minutes, building a 17-point halftime edge.

Aaliyah Hull grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for Iowa Central, which fell to 1-5 on the road this season. The loss also snapped a three-game winning streak for the Tritons, who head to Marshalltown on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip.

NIACC will make a visit to Fort Dodge to face Iowa Central on Feb. 15 inside Hodges Fieldhouse. The Tritons have played well there this season, going 10-2.
