Algona girls too much for Gaels

ALGONA — The Algona girls took control early here on Tuesday, and cruised to a 53-21 win over St. Edmond.

Aliyah Buscher and Abbey Holmes had 10 points each for the Bulldogs (9-6 overall), while A’Lailiah Perry and Molly McCaulley contributed eight points a piece.

Leah Neverman led the Gaels with nine points.

Algona jumped ahead 15-4 by the end of the first quarter and 29-9 at halftime.

“They have a lot of weapons; just very balanced,” SEHS head coach Steve Neuberger said. “They move the ball well to find the open player.

“I thought we defended better in the second half, and moved the ball better. We were too stagnant early. But they’re a very tough team. We’re still committing too many unforced turnovers, but we’re cutting down some. Leah was active inside and rebounded well.”

The Gaels are at Iowa Falls-Alden on Thursday.
