MARHSALLTOWN — Ashley Beaumont has seen her Fort Dodge swim team come up big in the pool with only 19 swimmers.

On Thursday night the Dodgers did it again — winning five events and finishing third at the CIML Iowa Invitational.

Fort Dodge accumulated 349 team points. Waukee won the team title with 616 and Valley was the runner up with 512.

“It’s a great accomplishment to win five of the eight events when you’re swimming against Waukee and Valley,” Beaumont said. “We ended the meet winning the 400, just out touching Waukee, who has one of the fastest times this season.

“I think that shows that maybe we can break the Top-10 at state.”

Freshman Eileen Fierke continued her strong rookie campaign, winning the 200 freestyle (1:59.53) and the 500 freestyle (5:25).

“It’s awesome to see her (Eileen) swimming so well,” Beaumont said. “I haven’t started resting her, so to do what she is doing without any rest is impressive.”

Grace Hartley came away with gold in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:16.18. Madigan Peimann was the other individual winner, finishing first in the 100 freestyle (55.08).

Eileen Fierke, Hartley, Elora Fierke and Peimann capped off the night with a first place showing in the 400 freestyle (5:25.29).

“We are trying to figure out what we are going to for the state meet with Madigan,” Beaumont said. “She has been swimming great in the 100 and the backstroke. Her swimming looks so effortless. Grace is swimming strong and none of them have rested.

“This should give us a boost at regionals.”

The Dodgers also had four runner up performances. Peimann, Hartley, Rylie Steinkamp and Eileen Fierke were second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:59.53).

Also earning silver was Steinkamp (1:03.08 in 100 butterfly), Hartley (5:28.41 in 500 freestyle) and Peimann in the 100 backstroke (1:01.54).

The quartet of Peimann, Hartley, Steinkamp and Fierke were fourth in the 200 freestyle relay 1:45.15).

Fort Dodge is back in action next Saturday when they host a regional swim meet in the Dodger pool.
