WAUKEE — The Fort Dodge girls swim team came away with four first place finishes here Tuesday night in a meet with Waukee and Newton.

The Warriors won the meet and the Dodgers scored a victory over Newton.

Eileen Fierke was a double-winner for the Dodgers, placing first in both the 200 free and 500 free events. Fierke swam a time of 1:57.64 to win the 200 free over Waukee’s Anna Hamling, who finished in 1:57.77.

She posted a time of 5:23.34 in the 500 free to win by almost six full seconds.

“Eileen is less than half-a-second away from earning a qualifying time for state,” FDSH head coach Ashley Beaumont said. “For her to be that close already is just awesome.”

Madigan Peimann captured the 100 back in 1:07.74, with Fierke, Grace Hartley, Eileen Fierke and Peimann coming together to win the final event, the 400 free relay.

The quartet posted a time of 3:47.06 to just out-touch Waukee’s relay, which went 3:47.17. Eileen Fierke had a split of 55.97, Hartley went 57.55, Elora Fierke had a time of 58.39 and Peimann went 55.15.

“For us to pull off some close races with just 16 girls against a team (Waukee) with 60, that is a great feeling,” Beaumont said. “We might be underdogs, but we can definitely push forward and win.”

Elora Fierke was the 100 breast runner-up in 1:13.76, just behind Waukee’s Mallory Kell (1:12.9).

Peimann added a third in the 100 free (55.59) and Rylie Steinkamp was third in the 100 fly (1:04.17). Hartley had fourth place finishes in both the 50 free (26.77) and 100 fly (1:05.91).

The Dodgers return to action on Thursday when they host Algona and Perry beginning at 5:30 p.m.
