FD softball team sweeps Bobcats

MARSHALLTOWN — The third-ranked (Class 5A) Fort Dodge softball team posted 28 runs in a doubleheader sweep here Wednesday vs. Marshalltown.

Scores were 15-0 and 13-0.

Jalen Adams opened the night with a perfect game for the Dodgers (21-5 overall), striking out 10 of the 12 batters she faced. The freshman was also 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.

“Marshalltown could not touch Jalen,” FDSH head coach Andi Adams said. “She was on fire and extended her on-base streak to 20 consecutive games.”

Loghen Schnetzer was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and scored twice, Aubrey Davis had two hits and drove in three runs, and Daphne Alstott went 2-for-3 with two steals, two RBI and two runs.

Tory Bennett drove in two runs from the leadoff spot, with Tristin Doster also plating two and recording both a triple and a double.

Martyne Lowrey scored twice and stole two bases, and Maia Davis was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Sophia Klinger also had a steal.

“Tristin just continues to hit the ball and Maia had another big game,” Adams said. “What I love about this team is they step up and do whatever we ask of them.”

In the nightcap, Haley Wills tossed a three-hitter over five innings, striking out four. She also drove in two runs.

Adams had three hits, scored three times and drove in two, with Bennett and Doster each recording two doubles. Doster scored three times and Aubrey Davis was 2-for-3 with two runs.

Bennett and Alstott added an RBI each.

Marshalltown is 5-23.

Next action for the Dodgers is Friday when they travel to Dallas Center to face No. 5 (4A) Dallas Center-Grimes and seventh-rated (2A) Iowa City Regina.

Fort Dodge also found out its postseason assignment, as they’ll host the winner between Sioux City East and Sioux City West at Rogers Park in a 5A, Region 3 semifinal on Saturday, July 13.

On the other side is No. 15 Des Moines East and Ankeny. The regional final is July 16 at the highest remaining seed.
