Boyd hits walk-off HR for Cowboys

CLARION — Brier Boyd connected on a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to give Clarion-Goldfield/Dows a 7-4 victory over St. Edmond here Wednesday night.

The Gaels had rallied in the top of the inning to tie it at 4-all before Boyd connected.

“We showed more heart and competed,” SEHS head coach Mike Szalat said. “We played a much cleaner game than we did against Algona so that was a positive.”

Jack McEvoy had two hits to lead St. Edmond, with Noah Carlson, Nick Bennett, Elijah Litwiller, Jackson Kochendorfer and Jed Tracy all recording one each.

“Coach (CJ) Tracy has found some great hitting drills that have really helped,” Szalat said. “We showed a lot of improvement at the plate.”

The Gaels are at Bishop Garrigan on Thursday evening.

St. Edmond will be in the same Class 1A district as the Golden Bears this year, as they face Graettinger-Terril/R-A in Algona on Saturday, July 13.
