Conrad 11th at state

AMES — Southeast Valley’s Delaney Conrad didn’t finish her state tournament the way she wanted, but the junior is already excited to see what her senior season could bring.

Conrad finished in 11th place at the Ames Country Club on Wednesday. She shot an 86 in the final round after an 83 in the first round.

“I got off to a bad start with my putter and struggled to regain my confidence,” Conrad said. “I did not play my best, but it definitely showed me what I need to work on for next year.”

In the final round, Conrad parred eight holes and had an eagle on the par-5 15th hole. In the first round, she had eight pars and a birdie.

“Even though I wasn’t happy with the outcome, I’m still glad for the experience,” Conrad said. “I’m trying to take everything that the last two days has taught me and carry this knowledge into my senior season.”

The Emmetsburg girls (730) were third in 2A. The E-Hawks shot 28 strokes better (351) than their opening round. New Hampton (662) won the title.

Emmetsburg’s Gretchen Hofstad (90-81–171) finished tied for 13th place. Molly McCain (91-82–173) was 16th.

Savannah Wolff (93-96–189) and Somer Hudson (105-97–202) were the other counters.

Also competing for Emmetsburg was Logan White (112-92–204) and Abbie Berkland (118-102–220).

In the first round, the E-Hawks had 15 pars. On Day 2, they had 24. Emmetsburg had no birdies in the first round, but six in the final round.
