Vratny no hits Cowgirls

CLARION — St. Edmond freshman Ella Vratny pitched a four-inning no-hitter as St. Edmond knocked off Clarion-Goldfield/Dows 14-0 on Friday night.

Vratny struckout five and walked three in the Gaels (8-4 overall, 5-1 North Central Conference) victory. Vratny also drove in two runs and scored once.

“She (Vratny) came out and threw strikes and the defense backed her up,” said St. Edmond head coach Nick Clark. “I was happy with her effort and she also drove in two runs.

“We played very well and did what we’re capable of doing, so it was nice to come out and show we know how to play our game.”

Audrey Kolacia was 3-for-4 with a double and drove in four runs. Jocy Timmerman also had two hits and two runs.

Erin Flattery, Jacque Oberg and Macey Mason had two hits each. Flattery had an RBI and scored three time. Oberg had two doubles.

Mason scored twice and drove in three runs. Cambire McBride also drove in two runs.

“Audrey drove in four runs and Macey had three RBI,” Clark said. Erin got back on track and did what she’s capable of doing. Girls contributed up and down the lineup and there seems to be a new tandem every night.”

St. Edmond stole seven bases on the night.

The Gaels are back in action today when they travel to the Van Meter tournament.

St. Edmond will face No. 9 Treynor (Class 2A0 at 11:30 a.m. With a loss the Gaels will play at 1 p.m. and with a win they’ll play at 2:30 p.m.
