The Iowa Central baseball team just couldn’t get past NIACC for the second straight day, dropping a doubleheader on Sunday at Ed Barbour Field.

The Tritons (20-23 overall, 9-11 ICCAC) lost 4-0 and 7-3, their fourth straight loss to NIACC (24-17-1, 13-6-1).

In the second game, the Tritons took a 3-2 lead after the first inning, but NIACC tacked on three in the sixth and two in the ninth for the victory.

“We had a competitive first inning,” said Iowa Central head coach Justin Meyer. “We lacked that fire and we just couldn’t sustain anything. Williamson (Brandon, NIACC’s pitcher) had it up as high as 95 and mixed in his pitches well.

“We had a couple of opportunities to push runs across, but didn’t.”

Andres Ortiz and Dylan Gasner had two hits each for the Tritons. Gasner drove in two runs.

Jacob Goraczkowski suffered the loss. He gave up seven hits, walked three and fanned six.

In the opener the Tritons only managed five hits. Ortiz once again had a two hit game.

Foster Anshutz picked up the loss for the Tritons. Anshutz gave up six hits, walked one and had 10 strikeouts.

“They took advantage of guys on the bases and we didn’t,” Meyer said. “They had big hits and we couldn’t capitalize.

“It was a frustrating weekend and hopefully we can continue to improve.”

The Tritons are back in action on Tuesday when they host Indian Hills at 2 p.m.
