Dodgers finish second at W-G

WOODWARD — The Fort Dodge volleyball team finished second at the Woodward-Granger Invitational on Saturday.

The Dodgers (8-22 overall) went 3-1 in pool play and advanced to the championship match, where they lost to Roland-Story 25-2 and 25-22.

“We started slow, but every game on we improved,” said Fort Dodge head coach Tonia Burrell. “Everyone contributed in some way.

“Our shots were falling on offense and we were being aggressive. It’s encouraging to see the defense get better with every game.”

The Dodgers lost to Roland-Story in the first match of pool play 21-13 and 21-18.

They bounced back with victories over Panorama (21-15, 21-17); Colfax-Mingo (21-13, 21-18) and Woodward-Granger (21-25, 26-24, 15-13).

Kacee Gollob led the Dodgers with 31 kills and 10 blocks. Beth Murman had 25 kills, while Dereka Burton had 16 and Brooke Erickson added 12.

Burton had nine blocks and Murman had four.

Josie Shirbroun was 28-for-30 serving with three aces. Shirbroun had 50 assists and Kathryn Cochrane had 31.

Kaden Pederson had 48 digs, Murman had 41 and Molly Hartman had 17.

The Dodgers are back in action on Wednesday at Waterloo West.
