Dowling overwhelms FDSH

WEST DES MOINES — The Fort Dodge baseball team dropped a pair of games to second-ranked (Class 4A) West Des Moines Dowling here Monday night.

Scores were 9-1 and 15-0 in four innings.

Tyrnan Lara had two hits in the opener, while Lucas Williamson delivered an RBI single for the Dodgers (5-6 overall). Bryer Nelson and Shane Halligan each had a hit in the nightcap.

“(Dowling) really swings the bats,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said. “Two different times they had seven or eight hits in a row.

“I thought Anthony Wagner came on in relief and pitched well. He did a nice job of keeping them off balance. And Tyrnan looked good at the plate with the two hits.”

The Maroons (10-1) put together a pair of huge innings, scoring six in the second inning of the first game and 11 in the first frame of the second contest.

Dowling has won nine in a row since a 6-0 loss to Des Moines Lincoln, including a sweep over Des Moines Roosevelt and an 11-4 win over West Des Moines Valley.

Fort Dodge hosts Mason City on Wednesday at Ed McNeil Field.

“We just have to go back to the basics,” Utley said. “We got beat by a better team. We are not where we need to be; it’s a process and we will go back to the drawing board.

“We are going to have to fight and claw for everything this year.”
