East Marshall has been one of the hottest teams in the state and that continued right into the Class 2A quarterfinals at Rogers Park Monday.

Senior catcher Madison Farrington blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first and pitcher Kodie Hoskey took it from there as the Mustangs (32-4 overall) posted a 4-0 win over Ogden.

It was the 19th straight win for East Marshall and 29th victory in their last 30 games. At one point this summer, the Mustangs were just 3-3.

“I am very proud of what we’ve done,” said head coach Jary Hoskey. “They are really a great group to be around. It’s been a great season regardless of what happens.

“We have eight seniors on our roster and they’ve done things so well.”

Farrington smacked her home run over the left field fence and into a strong head wind. It was her 14th home run of the season, which ties a school record. She also has 66 RBI, which leads the state and is a school record.

“It was out by a mile. I knew it was gone when she hit it,” said Hoskey, who picked up career win No. 290, all at East Marshall.

“That was so special,” Farrington said of her home run in the first. “Especially because it helped Kodie. To get a 2-0 lead was big.”

Hoskey finished with 13 strikeouts and scattered four hits. Ogden (25-8) got runners to second base three different times, but Hoskey worked out of every inning unscathed.

“We have been playing together for so long. We just know each other and help each other,” added Farrington.

Reagan McIlrath smacked a two-out double in the first to set the table for Farrington. The wind tried to push Farrington’s blast foul, but it landed well past the fence.

East Marshall added two runs in the third as well. Hannah Birks had an RBI-single and Abby Ryan raced home to score from third on a dropped fly ball.

“The girls are resilient,” said Hoskey. “Our seniors have been leaders. That was a big hit by Hannah.”

East Marshall takes on Alta-Aurelia in the 2A semifinals Wednesday at 5 p.m. on the Kruger Seeds Field.

Ogden plays Central Springs in a consolation game today at 1:30 p.m. on the Veterans’ Field.
