Congratulations

To the editor: After learning that Messenger sports editor Eric Pratt will be receiving the Dan McCool Media Award for his work covering wrestling, two things left me unsurprised. One was the fact that a journalist as hard-working, talented and thoughtful as Eric would be honored for his efforts. The other was that Eric wasted no time using social media to share recognition and praise with the rest of the sports staff. Need new home for museum

To the editor: Webster County residents can take a walk down that proverbial memory lane at the Webster County Museum in Otho. Today. But possibly not tomorrow. Time and Iowa weather are taking their toll on the museum’s thousands of historical items, destroying our very heritage. Plastic sheets blanket many of the exhibits, providing temporary protection from the disrespectful elements. The Webster County Museum was created 19 years ago as a tax-exempt 501(C)(3) organization. Family offers thanks

To the Editor: The family of Chandra (Hendrickson) Krogman would like to thank our community for your sympathy and support during this extremely difficult time. We are truly blessed by the outcome of the benefit with all the donations for the silent auction, the PSA from our local radio station, the donated time from MOJO Productions, the food from Village Inn and the online donations. Thanks Twin Lakes

To the editor: There were155 people registered for this year’s competition in the 13th Annual Half-Olympic Distance Triathlon, 6th Annual Duathlon and 2nd Annual Youth Triathlon: eight teams (22 people), 65 adults in triathlon, 23 in duathlon and 45 youth. Our youngest registered participant was 6 and oldest was 68 and average age was 39. 52% of athletes were female and 48% were male. The participants represented ten states: CA, CO, GA, IA, IL, MN, MO, NE, NJ, SD; and 50 different towns in Iowa. Skeptical of gun ban in stores

To the editor: I heard on the news that some stores will no longer allow guns to be brought into their stores, I don’t think that will prevent a person who has plans to do a mass shooting in a store from bringing their gun into a store, but if guns are allowed in stores and a shooting occurs in a store, it’s possible that if people are allowed to carry their gun into stores they might be able to shoot the gunman before he shoots people, the only people who will leave their gun in their vehicle after seeing a sign posted that says “no guns allowed in our store” are the law ...

Family fun event succeeds

We would like to thank the public for coming and making our JOURNEY OF HOPE such a big success. On June 22, we had a family fun event. We had a bike, walk/run to raise money to help local families with uninsured expenses when their child is seriously ill and child loss support. In addition, we raised money for the Children’s Cancer Research to help find a cure for children’s cancer across the United States. We had face painting, bouncy houses and games for the kids all of which was free for the children. A free will donation for the meal followed the silent auction. A special ...
